Minister for National Food Security & Research (MNFS&R) Sikandar Hayat Khan Bosan here on Tuesday assured his full co-operation and support for development of agricultural sector of Balochistan province. Talking to Agriculture Minister of Balochistan, Muhammad Aslam Bizenjo who called on him here, the minister said Balochistan had a vast potential in the fields of agriculture and livestock which needed to be improved and upgraded for the benefit of farming community.
Sikandar Bosan said efforts were being made to introduce advanced and good agricultural practices across the agricultural landscape of the country including Balochistan. The introduction of modern agricultural practices would improve the agricultural yield and productivity and ensure future food security, he added.
Minister for Agriculture Balochistan, Muhammad Aslam Bizenjo stressed the need for allocating sufficient funds for development of agriculture sector and proposed that federal government should share 50 percent of the cost of development projects. The minister also solicited help for project proposals titled National Programme for Improvement of Watercourses in Pakistan (NPIW-Phase-II) and National Programme for Development of Rodkohi Irrigation System in Pakistan (Phase-I).
The aim of proposed project of NPIW-Phase-II is to minimise conveyance losses, reduction in water logging and salinity and to increase farm productivity by efficient utilisation of irrigation water through improvement of the watercourses. Whereas the objective of the other project is to harvest hill torrents to bring cultivable wastelands under cultivation and to increase cropping intensity through improved water availability in water scarce areas.
