Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Makhdoom Shah Mehmood Qureshi on Tuesday met PML-Q leadership here at Chaudhry Brothers' Gulberg residence and discussed PTI's long march planned on August 14 and other matters of national importance besides overall political scenario. Views were also exchanged over Dr Tahir-ul-Qadri's revolution and 10-point agenda agreed between PML-Q and PAT, the sources said. Qureshi also apprised Chaudhry Brothers about his meeting with Opposition Leader Syed Khursheed Shah about appointment of new CEC and electoral reforms.
Sources claimed that Chaudhry Brothers urged Shah Mehmood Qureshi to convince PTI leadership to join hands with opposition parties to steer the country out of prevailing crises. They also apprised PTI leader about their efforts to bring opposition parties together on minimum agenda. Chaudhry Brothers, the sources claimed, told Qureshi that they were in contact with other political parties and would continue their struggle till change of system.
PML-Q leaders Basharat Raja, Chaudhry Zaheer Uddin and others were also present during the meeting. After the meeting, Shah Mehmood Qureshi told reporters that leaderships of both the parties (PTI-PML-Q) stood for democracy and would never support any extra-constitutional step. He said the PTI's long march is aimed at strengthening the democracy instead of derailing it.
He said PTI is waging a just struggle for exposing fraud committed in the name of elections. He said the Election Commission had failed to fulfil its obligation of holding free and fair general elections in May 2013. He made it clear that the PTI would only adopt a peaceful and constitutional course to further its struggle. According to him, PTI and PML-Q shared a common viewpoint. "PTI and Chaudhry Brothers are on one page on many points," he added. He said the PTI was left with no other option but to go to the people after failure of the forums concerned to address its grievances over election rigging. Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said that his party was unnecessarily being accused of pursuing an anti-democracy agenda. He said the propaganda was totally baseless.
