The registration of displaced people from North Waziristan in wake of ongoing military operation 'Zarb-i-Azb", in tribal agency, continued in Peshawar for the second day on Tuesday, while the number of IDPs, soared up at around 0.8million (800,000), according to latest data issued by the Fata Disaster Management Authority.
The IDPs of North Waziristan are being registered at the Government College of Management Sciences in Hayatabad Peshawar on the second day. Poor administration has led the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to experience adversities especially in the hot weather conditions. Media were also barred from entering the registration point.
The FDMA data said the total number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) so far registered with the authorities was 787,888. Moreover, the total number of families counted so far was 62,493 including 211,549 male and 236,883 female members, while the number of children was 339,456. Migrants from district Datta Khel and district Boya of North Waziristan region are being registered after data verification. Media are not being allowed to enter the registration point by the FATA Disaster Management Authority (FDMA).
Furthermore, the registration process for the IDPs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Peshawar which was stopped yesterday due to mismanagement at the registration point in Hayatabad resumed today. The registration of IDPs from the North Waziristan tribal region who had travelled to Peshawar and other northern districts had started yesterday.
The registration of IDPs who had travelled to southern districts was also underway in Bannu, where three registration centres had been established. The FDMA spokesman had said the government was determined to register every displaced person in order to ensure speedy distribution of relief amount, goods and other services so that no family was deprived of the facilities. The registration procedure, on the other hand, was a chaos as it was on the first day. The administration has its set-up under the shelter while no arrangements have been made to provide shelter to the affected from the scorching sun and so they have to tolerate the heat, standing in long queues.
IDPs had suffered similar mismanagement the day before. Problems of the victims have increased manifold due to the shortage of registration staff. People had to keep waiting, standing in long queues at the counter set up by the administration outside college in order to get their mobile Sims cards. The registration of North Waziristan Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) began in Peshawar on Monday, wherein IDPs belonging to Miranshah are being registered in the first phase.
According to Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the registration of North Waziristan IDPs is taking place at Government College of Commerce Hayatabad. The affectees from Miranshah Tehsil will be registered in the first stage. The registration of affectees from other Tehsils of North Waziristan will also continue from July 7 until July 14.
