The Lahore High Court here on Tuesday directed District Co-ordination Officer (DCO) to appear in person on Wednesday (today) in a petition challenging high prices and hoarding before and during the holy month of Ramazan and explain as to why government failed to control the prices. The petition was filed by Judicial Activism Penal through Azhar Siddique. During the hearing, the court observed that DCO visits the bazaars daily but why he failed to control the prices.
The petitioner's counsel told to the court that prices of essential food items were doubled every year before holy month of Ramadan. He said similarly the hoarders continued hoarding to affect the prices of daily used food items. The petitioner said that every thing including vegetables and fruits were not in the reach of a common citizen. He therefore prayed to the court to direct the government to control prices of essential food items, at least, in the month of Ramazan.
