The Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah who is also the Chairman of Thar Coal Energy Board (TCEB) said Thar Coal Project (TCP) enjoying the Ownership equally from federal and provincial governments. He said Sindh government is actively implementing the coal-based power projects under the joint venture with national and international investment organisations to generate the power most probably to be started from 2017-18. This he observed while presiding over meeting of Thar Coal Energy Board at CM House Karachi today.
The Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed, Advisor to CM Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sindh Minister Rubbina Qaimkhani, Sindh Minister Syed Ali Mardan Shah, Sindh Minister Zakat, Chief Secretary Sindh Sajjad Saleem Hotiyana, Principal Secretary to CM Alamdin Bullo, MD Thar Coal Energy Board and other members of TCEB attended the meeting.
Addressing the meeting the Chief Minister Sindh Syed Qaim Ali Shah said the foundation stone of the Coal-Power Project was laid down by Prime Minister of Pakistan Mian Nawaz Sharif and Ex-President Asif Ali Zardari that reflected and accorded the national importance to this Project. He said Thar Coal area possesses qualitative coal reserves which are even recognised on International forum at USA in a workshop. He said Thar Coal has potential to bring the whole country out of power crises. He said at present different coal-based power projects are being implemented by National and International power companies under the joint ventures. The Chief Minister Sindh after threadbare discussions and proposals constituted a Techincial Committee headed by MD Thar Coal with two members from private sector for early finalising the efficient mechanism for Thar Coal tariff determination and asked committee to make it simplified which could be turn back within two to three months.
Addressing the meeting the Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rasheed offered full support from Federal Government for inviting investment, implementing on the Coal Base Power Project. He also informed the meeting that Federal Government in its CCI meeting has taken positive decisions about establishment of coal-based power projects in the country. He said Federal Government to assist for encouraging and establishing coal-based power project by providing required infrastructure and fast track official proceedings. He said power crises are the challenge to Nation and we all have to combat it with joint efforts and organisational steps.
The meeting was informed that there are many investment companies which either have expressed their interest or entered into an agreement bringing total investment up to $7 to 8 billion. The Board after detailed discussion decided that conversation of oil-based power plants to the Thar Coal-based and recommended that new power plants should be designed on the Thar Coal specification. The Board recommended for early implementation on the Thar-Jamshoro transmission line to restore the confidence of investors.
The Thar Coal Energy Board under amendment in its act has empowered it to issue LOI to the project having share of Sindh Government and it recommended to the Federal Government. The Board expressed its satisfaction over the ongoing work on the infrastructure including supply of water, construction of Airport and roads' net. The meeting was informed that 67% work of the first scheme of water supply completed while work on other two schemes is also in progress. The Chief Minister Sindh assured the investing companies for providing foolproof security to them.-PR
