Pakistan Army on Wednesday dispatched 26 truckloads of relief goods for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of North Waziristan Agency (NWA) to mitigate their sufferings. The consignment contains relief items including flour, rice, sugar, lentils, cooking oil, dry milk, tea, dates and juices weighing 220 tons, besides a cash amount of Rs 7 million for distribution among the IDPs.
Senior Army officers were present at the send-off ceremony held at Race Course ground here. Talking to reporters, Commander Logistics Rawalpindi Brigadier Saeed Ahmad said Pakistan Army's 10-Corps in its first consignment has dispatched most essential edible items for IDP accommodated in Bannu relief camps. He said it is part of Army's consistent efforts to assist, rehabilitate and express solidarity with their brethren in their hour of need.
He said 5,000 relief assistance packages have been prepared and sent for IDPs, keeping in view all essential requirements. Brigadier Saeed said the Army has set up relief camps in Rawalpindi and in Islamabad to collect donations for the IDPs. He added that the second shipment would be dispatched soon. The officer appreciated the generous response of the people exhibiting national spirit and active participation in relief activities for their distressed brethren.
