The registration of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) from North Waziristan continued in Bannu and Peshawar for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, as number of IDPs has crossed over 800,000. According to data of Fata Disaster Management Authority (FDMA), the figure of people, who had been affected by ongoing military operation reached at 852,495 on Wednesday.
According to FDMA, 71,654 families of North Waziristan have been registered so far in Peshawar. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Sardar Mahtab Ahmad Khan launched a scheme to give cash to the internally displaced persons by SIMs. According to the official sources, one billion rupees will be disbursed to the IDPs through SIMs under the scheme. The displaced people will get Rs 250 million every month. They said Rs 40,000 would be given to the head of every IDP family by activated new SIM. At least 25,000 families will be benefited from this scheme. KP government has signed an agreement with a foreign cellular company in this regard, sources said.
Sources further said the new SIMs will also be used for giving monthly assistance of Rs 10,000 to every displaced family for the next six months. The government is making efforts to provide all basic necessities, including electricity, water and medical facilities to the registered IDPs at camps as reasonable amount is being given to each family. On the other hand, Pakistan Army also dispatched 25 trucks carrying relief goods for IDPs in Bannu.
The Health Directorate of the Fata Secretariat has finalised arrangements for provision of medical facilities to IDPs. According to a press release issued here by the Fata Secretariat said the directorate has set up medical camps at all exist points, where doctors, paramedics and technical staff are providing health facilities to IDPs. It was reported that the IDPs of North Waziristan, who had migrated to Afghanistan due to military operation, are returning home. More than 1,600 such families have been registered in Parachinar area of Kurram Agency, sources said. Sources said during the last few days, the affected tribesmen of Waziristan were returning back and were shifted to different parts of the country.
They said the returning IDPs were registered at the Government High School of Alizai tehsil and around 1,600 families, including 12,000 people, had been registered so far. Currently, the FDMA provides travelling facilities to the IDPs, while the health workers administer anti-polio drops to them. The Tori tribe of Parachinar is also extending assistance to such IDPs on humanitarian basis.
