Owing to high efforts of Islamabad police and effective strategy to counter criminals, a total of 407 accused were arrested during the last month for involvement in various crime cases besides recovery of cache of weapons, narcotics and looted items worth Rs 68.7 million from them.
On directions from Minister for Interior, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to enhance policing measures in the city for protection of lives and property of the citizens, special efforts have been made to curb illegal activities and achieved significant success. IGP Aftab Ahmad Cheema and SSP Muhammad Ali Nekokara assigned special task to officials of Islamabad Police, massive crackdown against absconders, criminals and search operation against suspects were launched.
A total of 70 cases were registered in various police stations against those possessing illegal weapons and 70 people were arrested with recovery of 60 pistols, five rifles, three Kalashnikovs, seven daggers and 2,830 rounds from them. In all, 56 persons were held for their involvement in drug peddling as well as bootlegging activities while 9.91 kilogram hashish, 235 gram heroin and 2,433 wine bottles were recovered.
Twenty-six car thieves and snatchers were nabbed and 19 vehicles and six motorbikes were recovered. A total of 57 persons were held for involvement in theft incidents while gold ornaments, cell phones, laptops, cash and other valuables worth millions of rupees were recovered.
Police nabbed 30 court absconders and 19 proclaimed offenders in crackdown against those criminals. Police took action against 1,337 beggars and shifted 944 of them to Edhi home, 71 children to child centers while challans against 322 professional alms-seekers were submitted. As many as 21 persons were nabbed for alleged involvement in immoral activities while four Afghan nationals were held for illegal stay in the country.
The metropolitan has experienced about 33 percent reductions in car theft. In the month of June this year, 50 cars were stolen from Islamabad as compared to a total of 73 vehicles stolen in 2013 which means a decrease of 23 cases of car theft in June 2014. Vigilance on police pickets, arrest of car thieves and recoveries of stolen vehicles and a stern message to police to be tough on the criminals have led to this reduction.
Islamabad also witnessed a decrease in cases of robberies in June 2014 as compared to the previous year. In June 2014, 28 cases of robberies were reported against 36 in June 2013.
Sihala police also nabbed a terrorist last month, Tayyab alias Umer Pagal, an activist of terrorist organisation `Ansar ul Ummah'. SSP Islamabad Muhammad Ali Nekokara said it is the prime responsibility of police to provide relief to citizens, adding that every possible effort would be made to provide protection to the lives and property of citizens and resolving their complaints on immediate basis.-PR
