The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has started mobilising all public and private universities of the country to play an effective role in supporting IDPs who have been displaced due to the ongoing operation Zarb-e-Azb in North Waziristan.
In this connection, a meeting of the Vice Chancellors of public and private universities of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa was held at HEC Regional Centre, Peshawar under the chairmanship of Professor Dr Mukhtar Ahmed Chairman HEC, says a press release issued here on Wednesday. Mushtaq Ahmad Ghani, Provincial Minister for Higher Education and Farah Hamid Khan Secretary, Higher Education Department, Government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa were also present at the occasion.
The Chairman HEC informed the meeting that an account has been opened for deposit of donations by the universities across Pakistan. He said that as an initial deposit, HEC is contributing one-day salary of all its employees. The forum recommended constitution of two committees. One is Need Analysis Committee, which is headed by Muhammad Ibrahim Khattak, Vice Chancellor, Khushal Khan Khattak University, Karak.
The Committee will submit its recommendations to the Task Force Committee, which will work out the financial impact and recommend release of funds out of the account maintained at HEC Islamabad. The Task Force Committee, which is headed by Engineer Imtiaz Gillani Vice Chancellor University of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar, will submit audited statement of accounts of expenditure. Speaking at the occasion, the Chairman HEC suggested that the Committees should focus on three core issues of education, health, and administrative support.-PR
