Gender-Based Violence (GBV) witnessed a rise to 84 percent in three provinces in the country. It was revealed in the survey report launched here on Saturday by Rutgers WPF with collaboration of SAFCO. According to the report, the survey was conducted in two districts Dera Ghazi Khan and Muzaffargarh of Punjab, two districts Kashmore and Jacobabad of Sindh and Jaffarabad and Naseerabad of Balochistan in the country.
Speaking on the occasion, PPP MPA Faqeer Dad Khoso said the violence witnessed a rise due to non-implementation of existing laws. "All stakeholders have to play their effective role to end violence against women," he said adding a woman is one who can play a role for any success in the society. He said there was a great lady Shaheed Benazir Bhutto who played a very important role for development of country and society.
The rising extremism in the country causes many issues for minority, he said adding each stakeholder has to play his role to end it to make better society. MQM MPA Rana Ansar said the violence against woman is mindset and it could be eliminated. There is a need of change of mindset to end violence against woman in the country; she said adding feudalism is one of the other reasons; that is promoting GBV in the country. Senior researcher Qadeer Baig said all forms of violence surged a rise in the country and the victim of the violence is woman.
The physical violence registered an increase by 75 percent while a sexual violence by 66 percent, he said adding the psychological violence witnessed a surge by 81 percent and in the same way, any other form of violence by 85 percent. There are different causes of that violence within society which include cultural violence, poverty violence, illiteracy, misinterpretation of religion and private matter, he said adding due to these causes, the woman is suffering a lot. Such violence adversely affected whole family including children not only woman in any house, he said. During pregnancy, the violence witnessed further a surge, it is confirmed that unborn baby is girl, he said.
