Spot cash basis bids for hard red winter wheat in the US Plains were mostly steady on Thursday with Kansas elevators seeing some farmer sales of freshly harvested wheat, cash merchants said. But harvest sales were generally light as farmers moved to the sidelines after wheat futures fell to four-month lows this week. The HRW wheat harvest is moving north this week as Kansas farmers finish up and combines move into Nebraska, industry sources said.
Merchants in north-west Kansas said the crop is yielding higher than expected and the quality was good despite late season rains. Overall, the Kansas wheat harvest has been a mixed bag but big yields were expected in Nebraska.
