The Karachi Port handled 93,926 tonnes of cargo comprising 62,483 tonnes of import cargo and 31,443 tonnes of export cargo including 5,745 loaded and empty containers during the last 24 hours ending at 0700 hours on Tuesday. The total import cargo of 62,483 tonnes comprised of 35,739 tonnes of containerised cargo; 14,546 tonnes of bulk cargo: 9,196 tonnes of coal; 1,331 tonnes of DAP; 4,019 tonnes of soyabean meal and 12,198 tonnes of oil/liquid cargo.
The total export cargo of 31,443 tonnes comprised of 30,832 tonnes of containerised cargo; 100 tonnes of general cargo and 511 tonnes of cement. As many as 5,745 containers comprising 2,588 containers import and 3,157 containers export were handled during the last 24 hours on Tuesday.
The breakup of imported containers shows 1,104 of 20's and 571 40's loaded while 188 of 20's and 77 of 40's empty containers, whereas that of exported containers shows 794 of 20's and 435 of 40's loaded containers while 471 of 20's and 511 of 40's empty containers were handled during the business hours. There were three ships namely Northern Prelude, Ponente and Ikan Sembak carrying containers and coal respectively sailed out to sea during the reported period. There were two vessels viz. MOL Dignity and Pona carrying containers respectively currently at the berths.
There were five ships namely Hyundai Singapore, HS Everest, Pona, Port Luois and Positive Pioneer carrying containers, oil tanker and vehicles sailed out to sea on Tuesday, while another ship namely YM New Jersey carrying containers is expected to sail on Wednesday. There were two vessels viz. Oriental Lotus and Positive Pioneer carrying oil tanker and vehicle respectively due to arrive on Tuesday, while four vessels viz. PAC Aries, UASC Ajman, APL Denver and AS Valentia carrying containers and coal respectively are due to arrive on Wednesday.
The total export cargo of 21,545 tonnes includes 16,316 tonnes of cement and 5,229 tonnes of containerised cargo. There were three ships namely MV Mega Lahori, MT Theresa Leo and MT Quetta with coal, edible oil and furnace oil sailed out sea on Tuesday morning, while another ship namely CV MSC Atlanta with containers is expected to sail on the same day afternoon.
A total number of nine vessels viz. CV MSC Atlanta, CV Safmarine Ngami, Moon Ray, MT Ocean Royal, Anna Maria, Mercur, Mega Lahori, MT Quetta and MT Theresa Leo currently occupied berths to load/offload containers, cement, urea, chemical, coal, furnace oil and edible oil respectively during the last 24 hours. As many as five ships namely Autaurus, More Centurion, Chem Road Vega, MT Lahore and Kuran with edible oil, furnace oil and diesel oil are currently at the outer anchorage of Port Qasim.
There were four vessels with containers, urea and chemical took berths at Qasim International Containers Terminal, Engro Vopak Terminal and FAP Terminal respectively on Monday. There are two ships namely MV Autaurus and MT Lahore with furnace oil and edible oil due to arrive on Tuesday.
