Federal Minister for States and Frontier Region General Abdul Qadir Balouch (Retd) said that the government would not leave the internally displaced persons (IDP), who had migrated from their birth places in North Waziristan Agency owing to military operation 'Zarb-e Azb' there, on mercy of the nature but would cater to all their needs.
Declaring the IDPs as national heroes, he said that the government would not beg for aid on IDPs behalf and would address all the problems of the IDPs. The minister said this while talking to the newsmen at the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) here on Thursday, which he visited to seek traders and businessmen's cooperation vis-à-vis redressal of IDPs grievances.
He said that the military operation 'Zarb-e Azb' against terrorists in NWA was inevitable to ensure complete peace in the country. The officers and soldiers of Pakistan Army were offering tremendous sacrifices for the country during the military operation and their sacrifices would not go in vain while the IDPS, who had left their homes for the country, were national heroes and the government would look after them with the support of entire nation. He said that the government had, so far, released Rs 6 billion for the IDPs of NWA and more funds would be made available to resolve their problems.
The minister categorically stated that the government would not spread hand before the international community for financial assistance to meet the needs of the IDPs and, as such, the entire nation would have to play their role and add their share to the noble cause of serving the IDPs. "I have asked the businessmen of Karachi that there is a dire need of water coolers and pedestal fans for the IDPs," he said, adding that the process of IDPs' registration was being continued and more than 80 per cent of them were in Bannu while the remaining were in other parts of the country.
