A CNG cylinder installed in a vehicle exploded, killing four people and three other injured in Peshawar on Monday. According to the police the gas cylinder, installed in a car, exploded when it was being filled at a pump station on Peshawar Ring Road, killing four people on the spot, while injuring three others sitting in another car. Two nearby cars were also damaged in the incident.
The cylinder was being filled with CNG when the blast occurred. The intensity of explosion was so extreme that it blew off the roof of the station. A bus parked nearby was also severely damaged; however, the passengers remained safe. Soon after the blast, rescue teams reached the site and shifted the bodies to Lady Reading Hospital. The explosion also damaged vehicles parked close by.
The explosion damaged the roof of the CNG station. The CNG refilling station manager and salesman were among the injured. The injured people were shifted to nearby hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Pervez Khattak expressed grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives in the blast. The CM directed the concerned authorities to control the use of sub-standard CNG cylinders in vehicles.
