At least four people including a lawyer were killed while five others injured in different incidents of violence in the city, here on Wednesday. According to police and rescue sources, lawyer Mubarak Raza Kazmi was gunned down by unidentified armed men near KDA ground in 13-D, Gulshan-e- Iqbal, in the remits of Gulshan-e-Iqbal police station.
The incident took place around 3:30 pm when Raza was on the way to market in his car. In the meantime, some unidentified persons came and opened multiple fires on him from close range and fled, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way to the hospital. Police said that the deceased was hit by four bullets.
Police suspect that he might have been killed over sectarian grounds. The body of the deceased was later handed over to the heirs after medico-legal formalities. The deceased was said to be resident of Federal B. Area, Block-13 and was son in-law of religious scholar Allama Talib Johri. In another incident, Huma, 35, wife of Bilal Naqvi, was killed while her husband and her son Hussain Naqvi were injured by unknown armed persons near Aisha Manzil, Karimabad.
Police said the incident occurred when the family was going to somewhere in a vehicle. When they reached near Karimabad, two unknown persons on a bike intercepted the vehicle and opened indiscriminate firing on them, Resultantly, Huma died on the spot while her son and husband sustained injuries. The body and injured were moved to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities and treatment.
Police said that the incident might be a result of sectarianism. In another incident, a security guard was shot and killed while two others injured when a group of robbers tried to rob a private company's cash van in Pak Colony, Orangi Town. The body and injured were moved to ASH for postmortem and treatment. Separately, one, Mohammad Hussain, 25, son of Mohammad Younis, was shot and killed by unidentified armed men in Phool Patti area, Lyari. The body was shifted to Civil Hospital Karachi for postmortem. A youth, Atif, 24, son of Gulzar, was shot and injured by unidentified armed men in Bhens Colony. He was shifted to JPMC for treatment.
