Elon Musk recently had a shareholder meeting in which he announced his plans for a free trial of Tesla’s Autopilot.

CEO Musk will be giving a chance to Tesla owners to try out company’s semi-autonomous system, Autopilot, for a free trial released ‘within the next couple months’. Musk, however, did not give further details about the terms of length of the trial at the shareholder meeting on Tuesday.

Autopilot features does not automatically come with the car, it costs an extra $5,000 for Tesla owners to get the adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping tool, The Verge reported.

CEO Elon Musk speaks up about recent Tesla car crash

Tesla’s Autopilot is currently under active development and Musk has guaranteed massive advancements in a new version to be rolled out to drivers this month, with more updates to come in upcoming months. “The reliability and capability of Autopilot will increase exponentially over the next six to 12 months. The improvements are very rapid. Autopilot’s improvements will be quite dramatic.”

Recently, Tesla’s Autopilot has been in headlines due to crashes, with some even deadly. This free trial might be an effort to boost the opinion of Autopilot as being safe and reliable, wrote Mashable.

Furthermore, Musk has also claimed that the company, which has previously missed its production goals, is now producing 3,500 Model 3 vehicles per week on average and will soon hit the production rate of 5,000 Model 3 cars per week by the end of June. “This is the most excruciating, hellish several months that I’ve ever had, and a lot of other people at Tesla. But I think we’re getting there,” said Musk.
