The majority of government employees and residents of Islamabad on Friday left for their hometowns for the 10-day long Eid holidays. The federal government announced four Eid-ul-Fitr holidays from July 29 (Tuesday) to August 1 (Friday), but the majority of federal employees took Monday (July 28) off to make it a nine-day long holiday. Most of the routine work carried out by different federal government ministries, departments and divisions would remain pending during these nine days.
The federal capital is likely to stay in sleep mode till August 4. On Friday, bus terminals, wagon stands and railways stations witnessed a great rush of the people anxious to leave for their native towns. A rush of vehicles was also witnessed on Benazir Bhutto Shaheed Road, Airport Road, Peshawar Road, Haider Road, Railways Road, IJP Principal Road and Raja Bazaar, especially in the afternoon, as people began leaving the capital. Few Islamabad residents chose to stay in the city during the Eid holidays.
