The city on Friday received the first spell of monsoon drizzle, that turned the atmosphere pleasant but caused traffic jams on many roads and a prolonged power breakdown. "A well marked seasonal low lies in north Balochistan and its adjoining areas with its trough extending south-eastwards," the met office said, forecasting partly cloudy weather for the metropolis with chances of rain-thundershower in the next 24 hours.
It said the strong moist currents are continuously penetrating into upper parts of the country and are likely to continue during next 24 to 36 hours. "Moderate monsoon currents would continue penetrating into upper and central parts of the country in next few days," it added.
The city's temperature declined significantly as monsoon drizzle began dropping many roads turned slick that caused traffic jams and disorder on the roads. Power supplies also came to a suspension as the KE cited a reason that the national grid tripping caused its power generating units to cease operations.
The office in its weekly forecast suggests that the country is likely to witness a rainy spell till next Thursday. It forecast rain-thundershower at scattered places for Kashmir, Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Sindh including Karachi, Zhob, Makran and Kalat divisions. Heavy falls are also expected at a few places in Kashmir, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Hazara divisions on Saturday.

For Monday, the office said rain-thundershower is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Sargodha divisions), upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan divisions).
For Tuesday, it said rain-thundershower is expected at scattered places in Kashmir, Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Sahiwal and Sargodha divisions), upper KP (Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat and Mardan divisions).
