A delegation comprising prominent members of Pakistan Pharmaceutical Manufacturers Association (PPMA) led by Ehsan Awan, PPMA Senior Vice Chairman, met with S M Muneer, Chief Executive, Trade Development Authority of Pakistan at TDAP Head Office, Karachi.
Today, Pakistan has total of 688 Pharma companies out of which 405 are Registered Pharma manufacturing units including 24 multinationals. Pharma industry is highly regulated and providing job opportunities to the science graduates. Pharmaceutical is one of the emerging sectors in Pakistan exports and every effort is being taken by TDAP to promote the exports of Pharma sector to the world. In pursuance of this objective, TDAP Chief Executive during meeting with PPMA assured that a Pharma Cell would be established within TDAP on the recommendations of the association in order to improvise the internal functioning and also to prioritise expedite the matter related to Pharmaceutical industry. The PPMA members had detailed discussion with the CE, TDAP regarding various problems related to the export of pharmaceutical products from Pakistan. Most highlighted issues were related the procedural bottlenecks that delay or inhibit growth in exports in particular.
PPMA also suggested several other measures that government should take to help the industry, in which special emphasis was on the role of TDAP with other regulatory authorities. It was also discussed that TDAP would extend the support to Pharma industry by providing them a platform for participation in international exhibitions world-wide and by sending trade delegations abroad, besides invited them to take full level participation in the upcoming Expo Pakistan scheduled in October 23-26.-PR
