The divisional and district administrations challaned 562 profiteers and imposed fine of Rs 9,19,200 on them, in different areas of the metropolis. This was stated by Commissioner Karachi Sohaib Ahmed in a statement here on Sunday. Four profiteers were also arrested for default in payment of fine amount.
He said that 154 milk sellers, 94 chicken/ meat sellers, 263 fruit and vegetable vendors and 51 other shopkeepers were challenged and fined for overcharging during price checking in Saddar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Liaquatabad, New Karachi, Landhi, Korangi, Model Colony Garden, Baldia, Ferozabad, Jamshed Quarters, Nazimabad, Bin Qasim, Ibrahim Hyderi and some other areas of the city.
He said that the crackdown against profiteering will continue till the sale of essential items is ensured according to officially approved price list.
