Massive displacement of people from NWA: centre urged to declare KP as calamity-hit region
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has demanded the federal government to declare KP as a calamity-hit region in wake of the mass displacement of tribal people from the North Waziristan Agency, and announce a special package and safely shifting of displaced people from the troubled tribal agency.
The demand was made by PTI KP Information Secretary MNA Ayesha Gulalai while addressing a news conference at the party provincial secretariat here on Sunday. She said the provincial KP government has so far provided Rs 1.27billion as aid to internally displaced persons from NWA.
She said all possible assistance being extended to people who were staying with their relatives and at government schools, despite limited resources of the provincial KP government. She said the assistance program has been carrying out in 16 districts of KP. She asked the federal government to announce Rs 20 billion package for NWA IDPs and make arrangements for safely return to their restive tribal agency.
The KP PTI Information Secretary said under the UN World Food Program (WFP), around 54,765 bags, containing food items, and 41,013 bags of non-food items were distributed among NWA IDPs at various makeshift camps in the province. She said IDPs were staying in more than 710 boys and 555 girls' schools of the province.
Similarly, she said that there was a need to install 65 power transformers of 50-KV and 200 transformers of 50KV and 65 transformers 100-KV at IDPs makeshift camps. She said the non-objection certificates for more than 30 NGOs/INGOs were cleared.
Ms Gulalai said, according to the North Waziristan jirga, people were still standard in Dosali, Razmak and Boya along with adjacent localities of the restive tribal agency and they were facing acute shortages of medicines and food items.
Annoying over the attitude of the federal government, she said the Centre was responsible to shift the stranded people from conflict-hit North Waziristan Agency. She said the people should be allowed to visit areas, which were so fare cleared in the tribal agency.
Talking about the PTI-led 'Azadi March' on August 14, she condemned the government for invoking Article 245 of the Constitution, and said the party will move to the Supreme Court against the government decision. She said the 'Azadi March' will be held at any cost in the federal capital Islamabad on August 14, and invited all political parties to join in the march for establishment of 'real democracy' in the country. She accused the PML-Nawaz of using national institutions for personal interests. She vowed the youth, women and men would cross all hurdles to participate in the 'Azadi March'.
