The Taiwan Flour Millers' Association has purchased 84,800 tonnes of milling wheat to be sourced from the United States, in a tender for that volume which closed on Thursday, European traders said. The wheat was sought in two consignments, with shipment between September 8-22 and September 25 to October 9.
The purchase for the first consignment for shipment between September 8-22 comprised 19,300 tonnes of dark northern spring wheat of 14 percent protein content, bought at $317.23 a tonne fob, 9,850 tonnes of hard red winter of 12.5 percent protein content at $284.59 a tonne fob and 12,250 tonnes of soft white wheat with 10.5 percent protein at $261.69 a tonne fob, traders said.
There is an additional charge of $30.97 a tonne for ocean shipping from the US Pacific north-west coast to Taiwan.
Seller of the first consignment was Cargill. The second consignment for shipment between September 25 to October 9 comprised 30,650 tonnes of dark northern spring of 14 percent protein content at $335.70 a tonne fob and 12,750 tonnes of hard red winter of 12.5 percent protein content at $287.32 a tonne fob.
There is an additional charge of $30.45 a tonne for shipping from the US Pacific north-west coast to Taiwan. Seller of the second consignment was Columbia Grain.
The association had made no purchase in its previous tender for 80,900 tonnes of US milling wheat with the same shipment period which closed on Friday, partly because of problems in a major US Pacific coast export terminal.
