Former Prime Minister and senior leader of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that gradual changes are taking place in the politics of the country but there is no threat to democracy. In an interview with private TV channel on Sunday, Yousuf Raza Gilani said that long march (Azadi March) was aimed at bringing reforms in the existing system having discrepancies and not to derail the democracy.
However, he warned that if the government tried to handle the participants of long march through undemocratic methods, it could result in law and order situation.
He said that despite knowing about large scale rigging in general elections, his party accepted the results of polls with open heart in the interest of democracy but the ruling PML-N turned deaf ears towards resolving problems faced by masses and country due to which opposition has to raise voice for rights of countrymen.
Yousuf Raza said that democratic institutions needed to be strengthened further as it will systemise the set-up and pave the way for development and progress in the country.
Ex-Prime Minister said that PPP had sacrificed more than any other political party for restoration of democracy and it would not let any conspiracy against democracy to succeed.
