Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will include the third latest technology fuel efficient A320 aircraft in its fleet in October this year. According to official sources, the national flag carrier has already received the delivery of two A320 aircraft on dry lease increasing the operational fleet to 26 aircraft.
Speaking at a ceremony recently held to include second A320 aircraft in PIA's fleet, Secretary Aviation and Chairman PIA, Muhammad Ali Gardezi informed that the national flag carrier is in the process of acquiring latest aircraft in its fleet.
He said: "Our aim is the revival of PIA as desired by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif and under the guidance and supervision of Shujaat Azeem, Advisor to the Prime Minister on Aviation, the airline is moving in the right direction."
He said that with the induction of these latest technology fuel efficient aircraft, the airline will be in a better position to offers services to its passengers and at the same time will benefit PIA in terms of fuel savings which is a major cost factor for the airline.
Ali Gardezi said that PIA will receive the third A320 aircraft in October while one aircraft on wet lease will be inducted in PIA fleet in August and it is expected that PIA will have 7-10 more aircraft inducted in its fleet by December, this year.
It may be mentioned here that with the induction of new aircraft in PIA fleet, the airline is likely to be able to restore its flights frequencies and introduce new destinations for the convenience of passengers.
