An election tribunal here on Tuesday setting aside election results of 33 polling stations in constituency of PP-97, Gujranwala, directed Election Commission for re-elections in the said polling stations within the stipulated time. Pakistan Muslim League (Quaid) leader Nasir Cheema had filed an application challenging the election of PML-N candidate Ashraf Waraich.
The complainant informed tribunal that Warraich was elected through unfair means. He, therefore, prayed to the tribunal to set aside election results in PP-97 and direct the Election Commission for re-elections. Ashraf Warraich, the respondent, rejected all allegations levelled against him. However, the judge had constituted a commission to investigate the alleged rigging. The commission on Tuesday submitted its report according to which the rigging was done in the constituency concerned. After the report of commission, the election tribunal set aside the election results in 33 polling stations of PP-97 and directed for re-election there within stipulated time.
