Apropos 'Tensions deepen as an obdurate Imran demands PM's exit, re-elections', carried by Business Recorder on Wednesday, it is important to note that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has stepped up his pressure not only on his allies but a friendly opposition - Pakistan People's Party - to help salvage his sinking ship. He is said to be contacting political figures much vigorously after PTI chief's demand.
According to that report, Nawaz Sharif held a meeting with "anti-Azadi and anti-Inqalab" marches political figures, including Mehmood Khan Achakzai, Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Aftab Sherpao, to muster their highly valuable support. The PM is said to have vehemently rejected the demand of his resignation by Imran Khan, Altaf Hussain and Dr Tahirul Qadri. How ironic it is that this third-time elected prime minister has failed to draw any valuable lesson from the mistakes that he committed in first and second terms during the 1990s. It is time that he must see the writing on the wall and realise that if he doesn't step down, Pakistan's instability will grow.
