Independence Day celebrations: shops selling national flags doing roaring business
Preparations for celebrating the fast-approaching Independence Day are in full swing as a number stalls, selling national flags and other material, have sprung up in various parts of the city. A number of people, particularly children, have been visiting such stalls to purchase flags, badges, stickers, colourful buntings, etc so that they could celebrate the Independence Day in a befitting manner.
Roadside stalls with a view to attracting children have also put up on display dresses in green and white colour, symbolising the country's flag. Besides, photographs of national heroes are also being 0sold at various stalls. It is since Pakistan came into being, people in their sheer love for their country leave no stone unturned in celebrating the Independence Day by decorating their houses and vehicles with national flags and colourful buntings, besides tastefully illuminating roads and streets.
A random survey of different parts of the city undertaken by this correspondent indicated that shops and roadside stalls saw a big jump in the sales of national flags during July-August. The survey further showed that the cost of a national flag of two by three-feet size was ranging between Rs 245 and Rs 380, while a flag of six-feet and above was being sold between Rs 1800 and Rs 3000. A number of shops have already been decorated with national flags and colourful buntings. A shopkeeper said that the sale of national flags and other Independence Day material was gaining momentum with each passing day and it would at its peak during coming weekend. Meanwhile, people engaged in preparing national flags and the Independence Day's celebrations other material are nowadays doing roaring business.
