Municipal Commissioner (MC) (South), Muhammad Raisi, whose cases of alleged malpractices are reportedly being probed by National Accountability Bureau (NAB) and Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE), has reportedly flown to Islamabad to use his clout in PPP for getting the investigations shelved, it is learnt on Thursday.
According to sources, he did not even bother to handover the charge of MC office to anyone prior to leaving Islamabad. Sources said that Raisi, who has recently been restored as Municipal Commissioner (South), left here for Islamabad along with PPP's Lyari MNA, Shahjehan Baloch, to seek support of other influential MNAs to influence the investigation currently under way against him. "He [Raisi] is now in Islamabad where he might be meeting the leader of opposition in the National Assembly, Syed Khursheed Shah, to seek his help against the investigation." Raisi was removed last month on the alleged charges corruption, but was restored to his post reportedly due to his political connections in the PPP.
He has reportedly been unduly rewarded by the PPP for being a 'Jiala' since he joined local government department as Muslim `Quli' in Grade-1. According to sources, Raisi was hired as a Muslim 'Qully' in Grade-1 in 1992, but was promoted to BPS-18 within a short span of 12 years. During the period, he held the posts of Health Inspector, Lyari's Town Officer (Infrastructure), Town Municipal Officer and Administrator Lyari Town, and Municipal Commissioner (South). He was accused of illegally appointing some 30 blue-eyed persons in different departments, and most of them were said to be his close relatives.
