Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi has said that his party would hold a peaceful "Azadi March" on August 14, 2014 at all cost. While condemning on the floor of the National Assembly Friday the arrests of the PTI workers in Punjab, he said, "I've asked the party workers to hold a peaceful protest at the police stations to make a demand for the return of their motorbikes."
He said their phone calls are being recorded while the government has announced that it will suspend the cell phone service on August 13 and 14, which will directly affect not only the common man, but the business community too. The government is complicating the situation by using undemocratic means. Fuel supply has been suspended and party workers have been detained in different areas, he said.
The PTI leader said that some of plain-clothes policemen came to his house and told some of his party workers that they have recorded their names. Qureshi said: "there was dictatorship in the past and now the government is behaving like a dictatorial regime. He said that there is no reason for invocation of Article-245 of the Constitution in Islamabad. Talking to the media outside the Parliament, he said that police stations across Punjab are full of motorcycles that have been detained by the Punjab police with a view to halting 'Azadi March'.
He said the Punjab government has suspended the petrol supply across the province, making it difficult for PTI workers to reach their destination. He, therefore, advised all the PTI workers to arrange alternate means beforehand. He also said that the government has removed all the posters, banners and boards of Imran Khan and has sealed Islamabad with containers.
Confirming the invitation to the national security conference, he said that PTI has received the invitation; now the leadership would take a decision after consulting the party members. They will inform the government of their decision by today (Friday) evening, he said. Talking to media outside the National Assembly, Awami Muslim League (AML) chief Sheikh Raheed said summoning a security conference with a view to forestalling a rally is a non-political act. He said PTI chief Imran Khan and PAT head Dr Tahirul Qadri must unite against the government.
