At a time when the country received 39 percent below normal monsoon rainfall in July, Meteorological department has forecast low rainy trend even for August and September 2014. The Met Office in its monsoon update for August and September said that below normal trend of seasonal rainfall was likely to continue across the country. "The erratic behaviour of current monsoon, due to prevailing El Nino conditions is likely to continue in Pakistan," it added.
On rainfall in August and September, the Met department said, the seasonal rains are likely to remain normal and embedded with few extreme rainy spells in the country. "The northern parts may receive nearly normal rains during the period," it predicted. However, it warned that the southern parts of the country are expected to receive below normal rainfall.
It also forecast hot and humid weather in major parts of the country for the next one week. Mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. But, it added that rain and thundershowers are expected at isolated places in Islamabad, Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur divisions), Hazara division, eastern Sindh (Sukkur, Mirpurkhas divisions) and Kashmir on Sunday.
On Monday, it said, mainly hot and very humid weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, rain-thundershowers are expected at a few places in Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Hazara divisions and Kashmir. It further said that rain and thundershowers are expected at scattered places in Islamabad, upper Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sargodha and Faisalabad divisions), Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar divisions and Kashmir. Besides, hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country on Thursday. It said rain-thundershowers are expected at scattered places in Islamabad, north-east Punjab (Rawalpindi, Gujranwala and Lahore divisions), Malakand, Hazara, Peshawar, Kohat, Bannu, D.I.Khan divisions, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan. Hot and humid weather is expected elsewhere in the country on Friday, the Met Office added.
