Secretary General, Jamaat e Islami, Liaqat Baloch, has said the JI earnestly desired that the present crisis may resolve before August 14 so that the nation could celebrate the Independence Day with complete satisfaction. While addressing a press conference at Mansura Sunday afternoon, he however warned that the political forces failed, nobody could stop the third force from stepping in.
He said that public meetings, rallies and protest were the beauty of democracy. He said at the time when Nawaz Sharif was in opposition, he too had been taking out rallies and holding public meetings. He said that politics implied flexibility while democracy stood for tolerance.
Liaqat Baloch said that a month had passed since the Model Town tragedy but the outcome of the investigation had not come to the force. He said the JI leadership in its meeting with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had also talked of the Model Town tragedy and had also made it clear to him that primarily it was the government responsibility to maintain law and order.
He said if the government tried to deny the people their democratic rights, the masses too could not be expected to remain peaceful. He said the country could not afford another adventurer in the current international and regional situation.
He said that had the government agreed to the recounting of votes in four constituencies. The things would not have reached the present stage.
The JI Secretary General said that the best option at the moment was that the rulers did not make the opposition protest a matter of prestige. He said that all political parties had reservations over the May 2013 elections and JI mandate was snatched on gun point in Karachi.
He however added that lawlessness could not be permitted in the name of law. He said the attitude of the democratic government was even worse than that of the dictators. The nervousness of the government had led to chaos and anarchy all over the country. Highways throughout the country had been blocked with containers and this was causing hardships to the general public. He said that the tug of war between the government and the institutions was giving rise to doubts and there was unrest among the people. He also slated PAT chief Tahirul Qadri's inflammatory addresses to his workers and said the PAT chief should mend his ways because violence was not in the interest of the country and the nation.
