Labelling Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif "civilian dictators," Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi has said the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government is pushing the country towards civil war.
Talking to newsmen here Monday, Elahi said, "We will not allow civilian dictators to remain in power," he said, adding "We are struggling for changing the lot of the poor and common man and brighter future of their children. Our destination and intention was right and as such Almighty Allah will also help us, those who have made the life of the people miserable will have to pay for their doings."
The PML-Q leader said that he has learnt that the incumbent government has ordered that the caravans of workers joining Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) 'revolutionary' march and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's (PTI) 'Azadi' march be stopped or fired at. Elahi read out a letter he has written to Inspector General (IG) Punjab and Punjab chief secretary holding the IG and DPO Gujarat responsible for the violence on August 8. He said the Punjab chief secretary was bypassed and DPO Gujarat was given direct orders to fire at PAT supporters during the clashes that broke out between police and PAT supporters.
What sort of this democracy was about which the rulers were talking so loudly in which the people had been deprived of their fundamental rights and facilities, he questioned. If we move out together, the administration would run away, Sharif brothers would run, he added.
Moreover, sources in the PML-Q believe that "political uncertainty in the country would ultimately lead to intervention from powerful quarters at some point if the situation continues to spins out of the government's control." Sources added that the PML-Q and PAT rally would reach Islamabad before PTI stages its show in the capital. Though PML-Q and PAT have not finalised the plan for the proposed march, they certainly want to hold centre stage before PTI supporters reach Islamabad.
