Controller Examinations, Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK), Imran Khan Chisti, on Monday announced the results of intermediate (part II) examinations 2014 of Pre- Medical, Medical Technology and Home Economics groups. According to statistics, first position in Pre-Medical group was shared by Bhawana Bai, daughter of Bhem Raj, of Government College for Women, Shahr-e-Liaquat, and Mahreen Umar, daughter of Mohammad Umar, of Liaquat College of Management Sciences.
Both the candidates secured 999 marks each. Similarly, Syed Faizan Ali of Adamjee Government College bagged second position with 998 marks. While the student of Saint Lawrence Government Girls Degree College, Sidra Mohammad Hussain secured third position. The students of Rana Liaquat Ali Khan Government Degree College of Home Economics bagged all top three positions in Home Economics examinations. Mariam Khalil, Maria Naseem and Sidra Kamran secured first, second and third position respectively.
The Controller Examination said that total 19,902 candidates appeared in Pre-Medical exams, of them 10,833 had been declared passed. The pass percentage stood at 54.43 percent. He further said that 279 students appeared in the Home Economics exams, of them 155 students had been declared passed. The pass percentage remained 55.56 percent.
BIEK Chairman Professor Anwar Ahmed Zai said that the board had followed the instructions of Sindh Education Department's Steering Committee and announced the results even one month before the scheduled date. He lauded the efforts of the board's examination staff for making the process transparent. Sharing their thoughts, the position holder students said that prolonged loadshedding, lawlessness and frequent strikes had badly affected academic activities throughout the year.
"There is a dire need of bringing improvement in the curriculum," a position holder said, adding that the government should take concrete measures in order to improve the education system. He called for implementation of uniform educational system in the country. Another position holder, Syed Faizan Ali, said that that government should remove discrimination of English and Urdu system. Sidra Hussain said that the political leadership should evolve consensus in order to steer the country out of crises. "Politicians must show unity for the sake of the country's future," she added.
