The Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) on Tuesday proposed the elevation of Balochistan High Court (BHC) Chief Justice Qazi Faiz Isa as judge of the Supreme Court and nominated Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal as the new BHC Chief Justice. The sources told Business Recorder that being Chairman of the JCP the Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Nasirul Mulk summoned the first meeting of the Commission and discussed the elevation of the BHC Chief Justice Isa to the Supreme Court.
It would be first-ever representation of the BHC in the Supreme Court since the retirement of former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in December 2013. Justice Ghulam Mustafa Mengal will remain the Chief Justice of the BHC till December 25, 2014. After the approval of the parliamentary committee on the appointments of judges, Qazi Faiz Isa will remain justice of the Supreme Court for more than ten years as he will retire on October 26, 2024 and it will include a one-year tenure as Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP).
Sources said the Commission has also given confirmation for a one-year tenure of service to seven additional judges of Sindh High Court (SHC) including Justice Shaukat Ali Memon, Justice Shahnawaz Tariq, Justice Abdul Maalik Gaddi, Justice Nazar Akbar, Justice Muhammad Juaid Ghuffar, Justice Zafar Ahmad Rajput and Justice Hassan Feroze . Besides, the Commission extended a one-year tenure of three judges of the Balochistan High Court including Justice Shakeel Ahmad, Justice Ijaz Ahmad Swati and Justice Muhammad Kaman Mulakhail.
