Pomi Butt, who is accused of inciting an attack on PTI's Azadi March in Gujranwala, and seven others were granted bail by a local court. On Thursday, Butt surrendered himself to police apparently on PTI pressure. Butt, who is a younger brother of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Gujranwala MPA Imran Khalid Butt, has been alleged of inciting PML-N workers into attacking 'Azadi March' participants with stones.
Butt, who is now locked up in Sabzi Mandi Police Station, has been denying any involvement in the attack. Today, police produced Butt and seven other PML-N workers before Session Court judge who granted bail to the accused for security bonds of Rs 100,000 each. Talking to media, Butt said he had not absconded at all contrary to media reports. "I was in my office when stones PTI convoy came under attack," he claimed.
He accused the PTI leaders of making provocative speeches which angered PML-N's supporters. "I am being framed for no reason and have nothing to do with what I am being accused of," he said. PTI had demanded of the government to arrest Pomi Butt as well as the attackers immediately. According to sources, Pomi Butt is affiliated with Dastgir Khan Group of the ruling party. Clashes erupted in Gujranwala after alleged firing on PTI chief Imran Khan's container. He remained safe.
