Secretary Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab Nasim Sadiq has said that the government wants to take full advantage of Turkish experience of unprecedented success in the livestock sector and intends to explore the possibilities for its replication in Pakistan. He said that disease control, nutrition, breed improvement, human resource, value chain enhancement are the top priorities of Livestock and Dairy Development Department Punjab.
He was talking to a Turkish delegation led by Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Deputy Under-secretary Nihat Pakdil who visited the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences here on Sunday. They discussed possibility of collaboration in education, research and development in veterinary, livestock and related sectors.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Talat Naseer Pasha gave a detailed presentation on "Veterinary Education System in Pakistan" to the visiting delegation. He threw light on the history of veterinary education and veterinary educational institutions, new initiatives in veterinary and livestock sector and the contribution of livestock to the national and agriculture GDPs of Pakistan. He also spoke about the role of the UVAS in production of trained manpower, provision of services and promotion of research in the country. He said that UVAS is currently executing research projects worth Rs 606 million grants won by the faculty members from national and international donor agencies.
The Turkish delegation comprised Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Under-secretary, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Dr Nahit Yazicioglu, Head of Department, Animal Health and Quarantine, General Directorate of Food and Control, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Mehmet Ali Karagoz, EU Assistant Expert, EU and Foreign Relations Department, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, Dr Ali Ayar, Head of Department, Breeding and Improvement, General Directorate of Animal Farming, Sirri Ozturk, member of Turkish Cattle Breeding Central Association, Dr Huseyin Velioglu, Secretary General, Turkish Cattle Breeding Central Association, Professor Dr Rifki Haziroglu, Dean of Veterinary School, Ankara University.
