The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Friday directed its Nazir to return surety money of Rs 1 million to PPP leader and former federal commerce minister Makhdoom Amin Fahim which he had furnished to seek bail in cases pertaining to the multi-billion rupees trade subsidy scam. The SHC division bench had approved the 10-day protective bail for Amin Fahim subject to furnishing surety in sum of Rs 1 million.
Applicant's counsel Shazia Hanjrah submitted that Amin Fahim was allowed concession of interim pre-arrest bail by the trial court after being approached by him. Hence, she requested the court to order return of surety furnished by Amin Fahim for bail. The FIA has registered cases against the two PPP leaders, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and Amin Fahim, and some other senior officials of the TDAP for their alleged involvement in approving and disbursing fraudulent trade subsidies of millions of rupees to several fake companies through fictitious claims and backdated cheques.
