Water, Power and Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Sunday said that protection of the Constitution, parliament and democracy was top on agenda of all political parties. The political parties were united to protect democracy from derailment and for supremacy of constitution he said.
Talking to Business Recorder here he said people belonging to all walks of life, including members of civil society were also united in support of parliament while only two parties were bent upon destabilising the state machinery through long march and Dhrana (sit-ins).
Asif said the government was willing and mobilising all channels for resolving issues through dialogues but both leaders were reluctant to demonstrate flexibility resultantly deadlock prevails. It is high time that both leaders should realise the gravity of the problems of the country and show political maturity for the larger national interests, he added.
The minister said prolonged sit-ins were posing serious threats to national economy and exports of the country as a result of which recovery of revenue and collection was on down trend which is a serious blow to national exchequer.
The productive and manufacturing sectors had also been affected due to Dhrana politics, he said. The minister said PTI leader was instigating overseas Pakistanis that they should send their remittance through "Hundi" which is totally illegal and this practice will damage national exchequer and create serious problems for the country.
Asif said that many foreign dignitaries have postponed their visit to Pakistan due to Dhrana and road shows of both the parties adding that many agreements which were signed during the visit of these leaders were also stuck up. The minister urged upon the people that they should forge unity among the ranks for foiling conspiracy of derailment of democracy.
