Academic and research efforts are strongly supported and promoted when institutions of higher education and professional academic associations join hands to groom the students and faculty with the help of updated knowledge, professional skills and appropriate accreditation of their educational qualifications.
These views were expressed by Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, Professor Dr Muhammad Qaiser, on the occasion of signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Department of Commerce, KU and the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) - a well-known UK-based international institution of chartered accountancy, finance and accounting.
Describing the importance of this MoU, Regional Head of ACCA for Middle East, North America and South Asia, Rehanuddin, hoped that this collaboration is a beginning of a sustainable co-operation and will benefit both the parties, especially the KU commerce graduates in terms of fee exemptions, updating their academic courses and accreditation of their degrees.
He added that the ACCA had students in more than a hundred countries. Dean, Faculty of Management and Administrative Sciences, (FMAS) Professor Dr Khalid M. Iraqi, emphasised the need to enhance linkage of the varsity's teaching departments with their relevant professional bodies and organisations to ensure that the education imparted to the youth is in harmony with the present and future market demands.
He hoped that the collaboration will improve further through seminars, conferences and similar academic activities between KU and ACCA, and raise better and more employment opportunities for the graduates. Chairman Department of Commerce thanked the VC and the Dean, FMAS for their guidance and support in signing this MoU with the ACCA. The ceremony was attended by KU Registrar, Professor Kalim Raza Khan, Deans of Faculties, Chairman KUBS, Chairman DPA, Ms Almas Abbas of ACCA, senior professors and a large number of students of the Department of Commerce, KU.
