The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday directed the home secretary to constitute a joint investigation team to probe the illegal detention of a man by law enforcers. The HSC bench headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Shaikh gave this direction while hearing a petition filed by Mehwish Kanwal seeking recovery of her spouse, Syed Kareemuddin, who has been missing since November 27, 2013.
The petitioner alleged that paramilitary forces had arrested her husband from the Korangi area and did not produce him in any court of law if he was involved in any criminal case. The court was approached to order law- enforcement officers to produce her spouse before the court. Meanwhile, the same bench while expressing extreme displeasure over non-compliance of its earlier order regarding constitution of a joint investigation team (JIT) on illegal detention of a man by Rangers personnel, issued notice to the home secretary to file progress report before the court by September 09.
The two-judge bench was hearing a petition filed by Faiz Muhammad, who sought recovery of his 40-year-old father Minhajuddin. The petitioner said that his father was arrested from his house in Sherpao Colony, Landhi Town, by Rangers troops on April 19, 2013, and since then he was missing. The petitioner said he approached the higher officers of Rangers and police department to get his father released but to no avail.
