SU registrar's ineligibility: SUOWA refutes SUTA allegation

President of Sindh University Officers Welfare Association (SUOWA) Ghulam Murtaza Siyal has strongly refuted the statement issued by SUTA president Dr Azhar Ali Shah regarding the ineligibility of prevailing acting Registrar Muhammad Ali Roshan Pathan and said that the function of professors and deans is to teach the students and promote the research apart from as they are of grade 21 & 22.
In a statement issued here on Tuesday, Siyal said that it was totally wrong by saying that a grade 20 most senior officer Muhammad Ali Roshan Pathan could not look after the affairs of the Sindh University in the absence of Vice Chancellor despite presence of the most senior professors and deans (grade 21 & 22). He said that basic job of professors and deans is only to teach the students, supervise academic activities, promote research and they cannot be indulged to run the administration. He said that the Officers of the University and also majority of teachers are against holding additional charge in administration by teachers.
He said that a number of teachers still are sitting in administration by holding additional charges including president of SUTA. Quoting Sindh University code Siyal said that Registrar is the custodian of the University and also responsible to hold the seal and record of the University and authorised officer to run all the affairs of the University as per rules and regulations and added that Muhammad Ali Pathan is completely capable of running the University affairs of the administration.
"The professors and deans are responsible for the academic matters because they are academic leaders and they are also against holding administration position by teachers in present situation. Siyal said that post of Registrar was of grade 20 and therefore the assignment of Registrar has been assigned to a senior Officer Pathan. He said that the appointment of Registrar is under powers of the Vice Chancellor and according to rules as well as being custodian of the University Registrar is looking after the day to day affairs of the Vice Chancellor because all the PVCs are busy on their campuses therefore assigning them charge of Vice Chancellor is out of question.
