Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast good monsoon rains in the country during first week of September 2014. Widespread rains / thunderstorm are predicted in Sindh. Spokesman of PMD said on Friday that a Weather System (Low Pressure Area) has developed over north-west Bay of Bengal that is likely to move westward in the coming days.
Under the influence of this Weather System monsoon currents will start to penetrate in Pakistan from Sunday/Monday. Widespread rain/thunderstorm with isolated heavy falls is expected in Sindh from Monday to Wednesday, while scattered rain/thunderstorm is also expected in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, eastern parts of Balochistan and Kashmir during the coming week.
Met Office said that two to three Weather Systems (Low Pressure Areas) are expected to develop in Bay of Bengal during the coming two weeks that may strengthen the monsoon in the region including Pakistan. Meanwhile Indus River System Authority has reduced outflow from the Tarbela dam by 25,000 cusecs as the provinces have substantially cut their water indents for sowing, growing and maturing the Kharif crops in view of the very low flows in the rivers in the first half of the monsoon season and 40 percent below normal rainfall so far this year.
