Member of Sindh Assembly, Nishat Zia Qadri has registered his serious concern about scarcity of funds available with municipality departments and relevant organisations in the province. "Paucity of funds has severely aggravated the situation in handling municipality related issues with specific reference to cleanliness and fumigation on regular basis," he said visiting his constituency on Friday.
The MPA said there was urgency to restore local bodies system in the province and help address the issue on strong lines. "Provincial government need to take immediate stock of the situation and must not only ensure availability of resources but also move forward in reactivating local bodies system," he said. MPA Qadri was of the opinion that these steps will not only avert possible outbreak of serious diseases including dengue fever, congo crimean fever but simultaneously ensure uninterrupted supply of water besides clean ambience and healthy environment for citizens in general.
"Active local bodies that must necessarily be transparent and accountable can help generating resources and also manage their adequate use," said Nishat Zia Qadri. He said municipal corporations need to take upon themselves safe handling and disposal of garbage generated in their respective areas of jurisdiction. The MPA during his visit to Shah Faisal Colony and Landhi/Korangi areas was also accompanied by Director, Local Government, Rubina Asif, Municipal Commissioner, Korangi, Masroor Memon, Superintendent Engineer Prem Chand, Director, Health Services, Rafiq Shaikh, Focal Person, Shah Faisal Zone, Aslam Pervez and Focal Person, Korangi, Mobin Siddiqui.
