Anti-government protests have lasted over two weeks but prime minister Nawaz Sharif insists that he will not resign. Sporadic talks between government and opposition have failed repeatedly. The government claims that Imran Khan appears isolated in his struggle to bring down the prime minister as his call for civil disobedience has been rejected by people.
The situation has arguably warranted the involvement of army as politicians have failed to resolve this grave crisis. It is, however, unlikely that the army would be able to broker a deal that would satisfy the government and the Imran-Qadri duo. That Islamabad's so-called 'Red Zone' home to the prime minister's home, parliament and embassies - has been turned into a 'public toilet' as it is littered with rubbish and reeking of human waste is a sardonic comment on our state of affairs.
