Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Asif on Wednesday said that more than 700,000 cusecs of water would pass through the Trimmu Headworks and a 100-foot breach had already been made on its left side to reduce pressure on headworks.
While briefing the ongoing joint-session of the Parliament about the flood update as of 10:00am Wednesday, the Minister said that 562,000 cusecs water was passing through the Trimmu Headworks while its capacity was 642,000. He said there was no threat to the barrages, including Guddu, Sukkur and Kotri as the flood water would be within the limit of barrages' designs.
He said 66 people had lost their lives while 109 sustained injuries in rain-hit areas of Azad Kashmir. He said floods also affected 120 villages, 625-kilometre roads, 15 bridges, water supply schemes and telephone infrastructure in the valley. The minister said that eleven people perished while 22 sustained injuries in land sliding incidents in various districts of Gilgit-Baltistan.
