Water reservoirs should be built to restore the flood water in the country. This was stated by the General Secretary of Quaid-e-Millat Liaquat Ali Khan Memorial Committee, Mehfooz-un-Nabi Khan in a press release. Referring to the research work of world renowned economist, Dr Mehhoobul Haq (late), titled "strategy of economic planning", he said that Dr Mehboobullah floated the idea of "Man-made lakes" on the river sides in Pakistan with the help of available human resource and without involving any foreign financial or technical assistance.
Mehfooz-un-Nabi said that the idea should have been implemented long ago but the various governments in power did not pay any attention to this task and continued to look upon the foreign loan-giving agencies for the construction of big water reservoir. He said that renowned British journalist Mc Hen has described the international financial institutions as "Lords of Poverty" and disclosed that the IMF, World Bank and Other such financial agencies hire lobbies in different developing countries to influence the rulers and decision makers to avail loan from so called international donors. Mehfooz-un-Nabi said that the time has arrived when the nation should rely on their own resources to meet the challenges effective]y without any foreign assistance.-PR
