Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has paid glowing tributes to the nine party martyrs who laid down their lives during the historic Movement for the Restoration of Democracy (MRD) in Khairpur Nathan Shah on this day in 1983.
These heroes of the democratic movement were martyred in the ruthless firing on the protesting PPP workers in different villages of Khairpur Nathan Shah by military dictator General Zia's martial law forces to quell the struggle led by Shaheed Benazir Bhutto and Begum Nusrat Bhutto for the restoration of democracy. He said these innocent party workers carried no weapons or batons during their struggle for the restoration of democracy yet they were targeted by roaring guns of dictator Zia and embraced martyrdom for the cause of the nation and democratic order.
Bilawal saluted each martyr of Khairpur Nathan Shah, including Aziz Lakhair, Shahnawaz Khoso, Ghulam Nabi Khoso, Nizamuddin Naich, Habibullah Leghari, Deedar Khokhar, Allah Warrayo Langah, Abdul Ghani Abro and Zameer Jagirani. The PPP is observing the 31st Martyrdom Day of MRD martyrs in Dadu district and PPP MNA Imran Leghari has organized a programme to pay homage to them.
The PPP chairperson said the party would never forget the martyrs, both leaders and workers, as they continue to inject strength in continuing the struggle for democracy. Instead of avenging these martyrdoms, the PPP chose democracy to be the best revenge because "we are waging Jihad for the rights of downtrodden, oppressed and poverty-ridden people of Pakistan and their bright future". Bilawal also asked the Sindh government to look after the families of our martyrs as he would never tolerate any complaint of the martyrs' families.
