Sindh University (SU) Jamshoro has launched online learning management system (LMS) in a bid to impart distance education on the campus and established directorate of distance education (DDE) here on Friday. The establishment of directorate of distance learning education is aimed at imparting education through distance learning method by using the latest technology named 'Information & Communication Technology' (ICT).
In the initial phase, admissions in three important disciplines which include MA in English, MA in Sindhi and MA in Islamic Studies have been started on the campus. According to University Spokesman, Higher Education Commission (HEC) provided Sindh University with online learning management system with the idea to create interaction among the teachers and students as it (HEC) intends to replace private mode of learning with distance learning education through ICT interaction.
He said that the idea of the establishment of DDE originated only in an attempt to improve quality of education by providing an effective alternate to private examination system wherein the learning outcome always remained poor and pitiable. In this regard, a delegation of HEC consists of Deputy Director Quality Assurance Hakim Ali Talpur, Senir Program Officer Mahesh Ahuja and Quality Improvement Specialist Fakiha Zafar visited SU to assess the progress in the field of distance education and they held a meeting with Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Imdad Ali Ismaili at his office. The focal person of newly established DDE Professor Dr Parveen Munshi and Director SU Quality Enhancement Cell Dr Azhar Ali Shah also participated in the moot.
The meeting discussed about the strategic plan for strengthening and improving the Directorate of Distance Education and pledged to work together for imparting quality education through ICT. Vice Chancellor on the occasion assured the HEC delegation of extending every possible support to materialise the plan on priority basis.
