Two people were killed in separate incidents of violence while the paramilitary Rangers claimed to have arrested 10 accused in different parts of Karachi on Friday. According to police and rescue sources, Zafar, 35, son of Wali Muhammad Lasi, was shot dead by unknown people near the Muhammadi Masque in the jurisdictions of Pak Colony police station. The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital (CH) for postmortem examinations.
Abdul Qayyum, son of Siddique, was stabbed to death by unknown assailants in Nazimabad in the jurisdiction of Nazimabad police station. The body of the victim was shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital (ASH) for medico-legal formalities. In the same manner, another man named, Adnan, son of Qamar, was stabbed by unknown people in the jurisdiction of Khawaja Ajmer Nagri police station. He was rushed to a near-by private hospital for treatment.
A spokesman for Rangers told Business Recorder that they have arrested 10 offenders from different parts of the Karachi city as target killers have spread their wings by shooting to death leaders of both sects in the mega city. He said in the 10 arrested suspects, one is a target killer affiliated with a political party. The raids were conducted in Gulzar Hijri, Landhi, Arafat Town, Dastagir, Azizabad and Saiful Marri Goth. "The arrested target killer is affiliated with a political party", he added.
Meanwhile, the Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslameen (MWM) on Friday staged demonstrations to denounce the government for the "Shia genocide" in Pakistan and observed as a protest day on a call from the leadership. The main rally was staged in Kharadar where supporters of the MWM gathered outside the Khoja Masjid chanting slogans against the ongoing killings of citizens. Allama Baqar Zaidi, Maulana Ali Anwar Jafari, Maulana Ali Afzaal Rizvi, Ali Hussain Naqvi, Mubashir Hassan and MWM leaders spoke to the protestors.
Meanwhile, a Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) team defused a bomb which was planted on a motorcycle near Surjani Town police station. Traffic on the surrounding roads got jammed for half and hour owing to the BDS operation. The residents of Numaish and Lines Area held a protest demonstration and staged a sit-in against loadshedding carried out by K-Electric. The protest caused massive traffic jam on the M A Jinnah Road. Later the city police blocked the road for all kind of traffic heading towards Tower by taking their route on the M A Jinnah Road.
