Pakistan Muslim League-Q (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Parvez Elahi has accused Nawaz Sharif of bargaining the interests of Punjab and abandoning the Kalabagh dam project for becoming the prime minister for third time. If 11 parties in parliament were with the government, then Nawaz Sharif should make them agree to the construction of the Kalabagh dam, he added.
Pervez Elahi said Nawaz Sharif agreed to reduction in Punjab's share of electricity and gas whereas "we had not compromised over distribution of resources on population basis despite pressure during the tenure of military ruler General Pervez Musharraf (retired) and emphasised on other provinces for the construction of Kalabagh dam so that adequate water could become available for electricity and crops irrigation purposes in the country.
He was talking to media persons after offering condolence over the sad demise of the mother of PML-Q workers, Shafiq Malik and Kabir Malik, at their residence here on Sunday.
Parvez Elahi said the rulers would have to go now, all their false promises and dramas now stand exposed before the people and this was the reason wherever they stepped down from helicopters in flood-hit areas they were welcomed by the slogan of "Go Nawaz Go".
He said: "The government itself was now on the ventilator and had no future, in order to divert attention from sit-ins despite advance information regarding floods millions of people were handed over to floods. The government deliberately did not take timely steps to safe people from the deluge."
He paid rich tributes to the army and Rescue 1122 as well as other organisations that were rescuing and helping the people in the flood-effected areas at great risks to their own lives.
Ch Parvez Elahi condemned the arrest of leaders and workers of the parties participating in the sit-in in Islamabad, Lahore and other cities and raids on their houses in gross violation of sanctity of "chadar aur chahrdeevari" and said the days of the government had been numbered, sit-ins had their future while the government had no future at all.
Parvez Elahi said the present rulers had no interest in the life, property, health and education of the people, they only believed in slogan-mongering.
